Hybrid Learning

Hybrid learning is defined as an educational model where some students attend class in-person, while others join the class virtually from home. Educators teach remote and in-person students at the same time using tools like Google Meet (Source: https://www.owllabs.com/blog/hybrid-learning#What-Is-Hybrid-Learning).

Hybrid Model Structure

Students participating in hybrid instruction will attend school for two consecutive days per week for in-person instruction and receive virtual instruction for the remaining three days. Students attending school have been assigned a hybrid cohort group based on a variety of factors such as transportation, feed school patterns, and staffing. Students assigned to Cohort A will attend school on Monday and Tuesday and students assigned to Cohort B will attend on Thursday and Friday each week. Wednesdays will continue as a virtual learning day for all students unless otherwise indicated.

Hybrid Instruction

Teachers will be utilizing the same lesson to teach both students in person and virtually. The lesson components will remain the same as those that have been used to provide virtual instruction: Outcomes, Think About It, Learn About It, Try It, Show What You Know, Lift Off, and possible homework. Below is an example of how hybrid instruction could be implemented when teaching both in-person students and virtual students.

Teachers will continue to use Schoology and Google Meet to facilitate instruction. While in-person instruction may provide the opportunity to utilize some paper options, all course materials, assignments, and assessments will be posted within each course Schoology page. Students will be required to submit all work through Schoology or other electronic means as directed by the teacher.

General Expectations (BCPS Reopening Plan, pg. 132)

Teachers will plan instruction aligned to the BCPS curriculum, MD College and Career Ready Standards Framework, and College Board that best meets the needs of students in each learning environment. This may require planning differentiated lessons. Initially, teachers may use the same blended learning lesson plans as they learn to manage multiple groups, but the goal is for in-person instruction to reflect best practices including hands-on learning opportunities that meet mitigation protocols. These opportunities may differ from those offered to virtual learning students.

Students in both settings are expected to be active participants in their learning and complete all assignments to the best of their ability.

Students attending in-person instruction are expected to bring a charged device to school on their assigned day. Opportunities to charge devices during the school day will be made.
