Eastern Tech, Western Tech, Carver Center among top 5 MD magnets
Baltimore County’s public high schools placed well in the annual U.S. News & World Report’s Best High Schools list released today, with five placing among the top 30 high schools in the state, 10 among the top 150, three among the state’s top five magnet schools, and two among the nation’s best magnet schools.
Eastern Technical High School and Western School of Technology and Environmental Science led the way for Baltimore County Public Schools, ranking second and 11th respectively among high schools in Maryland and second and third respectively among the state’s magnet schools. George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology came in 15th on the state’s best high school list and fifth among all magnet schools in Maryland. Eastern was ranked 42nd on the national list of magnet schools, while Western was ranked 87th.
Six Baltimore County public high schools ranked among the top 60 in Maryland. They are Dulaney High School, Eastern Tech, Carver Center, Hereford High School, Towson High School, and Western Tech. Eastern Tech was named the Baltimore Metro region’s top high school.

Franklin High – #107 in Maryland
Pikesville High – #112 in Maryland
Catonsville High – #122 in Maryland

Loch Raven High – #153 in Maryland
Sparrows Point High – #159 in Maryland
The U.S. News rankings include data on nearly 25,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Rankings are based on college readiness (30 percent), state assessment proficiency (20 percent), state assessment performance (20 percent), underserved student performance (10 percent), college curriculum breadth (10 percent), and graduation rate (10 percent). Factored into the rankings were participation and achievement in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses.
