Eastern Tech’s chapter of The National Honor Society, in collaboration with The Future Business Leaders of America and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), collected new toys, new cold weather clothing and gently used sporting equipment for organizations such as Toys for Tots, Hannah’s Helping Hands, and The Salvation Army for distribution to those in the community who are less fortunate. The Giving Tree started last year when National Honor Society students began thinking about an activity that could be used for donations. The goal was for the activity to be inclusive of all holidays, so the concept of the Giving Tree was created and placed in the lobby of Eastern Tech. Since its inception, the tree has been donned with mittens, hats, scarves, and toys that have been donated by students and teachers. Moderator for Eastern Tech’s National Honor Society, Mrs. Murphy, explained that her motivation to donate and help organize the Giving Tree campaign is rooted in the spirit of holiday season. “This initiative allows students to give to the less fortunate.” So far, hundreds of toys and several bags of clothing have been donated for distribution early next week.
